Dave Whorton

Dave founded Tugboat to serve the highest potential entrepreneurs and their teams.

After earning a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and an MBA from StanfordĀ“s Graduate School of Business, Dave found his way to Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and TPG Ventures, where he developed and incubated numerous successful investments. Notable early stage investments that Dave either led or worked closely with include Amazon.com, Autotrader, Blue Nile, Cranium, E.piphany, Google, Successfactors, and Stella & Dot.

While an investor, Dave has also been called a serial entrepreneur. He has served as founding CEO of Good Technology, co-founder of Drugstore.com, general manager of Optical Engineering, and founder of Tugboat. Earlier in his career, Dave had operational roles at Hewlett Packard, Bain & Company and Netscape. Dave's non-profit work includes serving on the board of Newschools Venture Fund since 1998.




Christopher J. Alden
Venture Partner

Christopher J. Alden has started and run several successful media, technology, & Internet companies. He co-founded Red Herring, “the bible of Silicon Valley,” out of his home in the early 1990s and was the COO or CEO for most of its tenure, building it to a $100M revenue business with nearly 400 employees. He then became an EIR at TPG where he started Rojo, an early Web 2.0 RSS company that pioneered new concepts in social media consumption & sharing. He sold Rojo to Six Apart in 2006 where he ran the Professional Division and was promoted to CEO in 2007; overseeing the 200-employee company until its sale to SAY Media in late 2010. He has since been investing in, advising, and incubating startups.
